Roger Federer couldn’t figure out why he felt so sluggish at the start of this season. His doctors eventually gave him an explanation: The world’s No. 1 tennis player had mononucleosis.

“He doesn’t want to make any excuses and take anything away from anybody. In hindsight, had [his doctors] known he had mono, they wouldn’t have let him play.” Federer’s agent, Tony Godsick. He was diagnosed with mononucleosis last month after seeing doctors in Switzerland and Dubai, Godsick said. Mononucleosis is an infection caused by a virus. Symptoms include fever, sore throat, headaches and feeling tired.

Godsick said Federer is “over it now,” and will play Monday night against Pete Sampras in their exhibition match at Madison Square Garden. Federer owns 12 Grand Slam singles titles, two away from Sampras’ career record. I new something had to be wrong with most likely the greatest tennis player to step on the grass.

I would bet a lot of money that this is why he lost in the first round aganisit Andy Murray. Federer does not ever lose in the first round…ever! Now that he is starting to feel better he can focus on tennis and I am sure that he will win wimbeldon and the US open. And you know what I bet that he gives Nadal a run for his money on the clay and the French Open. Here is my bold pick of the month…FEDERER WINS AT THE FRENCH!
