Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay went to bed Sunday night believing coach Tony Dungy “was leaning” toward coming back for the 2008 season, but he won’t know for sure until a 4:30 p.m. ET news conference on Monday. According to the Colts Coach Dungy, GM Bill Polian, assissant head coach Jim Cladwell, and Irsay will all be in attendence for the news conference. Irsay has confirmed that he has already signed Caldwell to an extension and has told him that he will be the next head coach of the Colts if and when Dungy retires.
If you read my previous blog about Dungy you would no that Irsay has given Dungy a lot of freedom to whatever he needs to do in the offseason. But Dungy dismissed a plan to take significant time in the offseason to spend with his family, which has recently moved back to Tampa. Now that this press conference is almost here, there will be Colts fans glued to the TV waiting to see if Dungy is returning for at least one more season.
I hope he does, he is a great coach and like I said before a class act. But if he does step down and not return as the coach, he will leave a great legacy and eventually be in the Hall Of Fame. Maybe not a first ballot HOF but he will get in, that is something that you can bet on! BELIEVE IT!!
