Barbaro…A Final Goodbye

Barbaro

Its not often that I get to write about Horse Racing, but it is something that I like to watch on TV and even more, I like to go to the OTB and put a few dollars on the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and the Belmont. Its always a good time at the OTB, because if your not a big gambler you could put a few dollars on any horse you want. It makes the race more interesting and the race is only about 2 minutes long.

But a couple years ago there could have been history made, after Barbaro won the Kentucky Derby, easily I mite add he was the favorite to win the Triple Crown even easier. But out of the gate at the Preakness Barbaro came up limp and something happened to one of his legs. A long story short the horse had to have surgery and it was not sure how much longer they would allow him to live and he was eventually

put down. Barbaro was euthanized Jan. 29, 2007 following an eight-month fight for survival. This was a very tragic story and got a great response from fans across America, sending cards and gifts to the owners of Barbaro and just showing how much they cared.

The reason that I am bring up Barbaro is because today is the one year anniversary of his death (its not really an anniversary but) his owners will return to Churchill Downs today to honor the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner on the first anniversary of his death. We are not really sure how they are going to remember the young colt but whatever they do will be viewed by alot of people. One thing that the ChurchHill Downs people are thinking of doing is at The Kentucky Derby Museum, a few hundred feet from the finish line, has offered to set up a memorial for the colt in whatever manner the Jacksons deem appropriate. I am very confident that there will be alot of people there to welcome this and visit over the next few months. That would be a great idea and a nice way to say our Final Goodbyes to Barbaro.
